When my son shared his experience of winning an English-speaking contest and being the sole representative of the class honored in front of the whole school, I was pleasantly surprised. The contest required students to speak on a given topic for 1-3 minutes every day for 30 consecutive days. Supporting him in making daily recordings, I witnessed his transformative journey. Each day, his English-speaking skills showed improvement over the previous day. The 30 days did not magically make my son fluent in English, but like a diary, he spoke with emotional sincerity, narrating simple things like his favorite food or the places he had been with heartfelt emotion. During this challenge, he even considered giving up. In the final video, I was deeply moved when he summarized the journey, covering 30 story topics. Beyond just an English-speaking contest, he learned valuable lessons in perseverance, resilience, and the effort to overcome challenges, commitment to goals, and task completion. He isn’t the best English student in the class. Initially, as a shy student, a small certificate from this contest boosted his motivation across subjects, not just English.
There are many stories I have experienced with my two children (my son in 7th grade and my daughter in 2nd grade). Not only in English, but all subjects at Edison are built within an incredibly creative and progressive academic ecosystem that follows global education trends. The curriculum encourages students to immerse themselves, understand, and master knowledge naturally and creatively, rather than just through rote learning. I am always amazed at the Edison teachers for their assignment methods and synthesis of knowledge. Their dedication shows careful attention, passion, and constant innovation to optimize effectiveness. Assignments integrate knowledge with life, aiming not only at decoding skills of knowledge but also at sowing life perspectives and cultural foundations. What I appreciate about the Edison environment is that every child, with their different intellectual abilities, always has space and opportunities to shine with their own strengths. Edison School develops students’ skills; builds their ability to grasp; enhances their capabilities; guides them in respecting diversity, and accepting differences.
