A test of logical thinking and courage.

Stepping out of the interview room, even the “key persons” of school events could not avoid sweating on their faces. Phuong Nhi, in the top 10 of Greenwich University’s TEDx English speech contest, confessed: “Oh, I didn’t expect it to be so difficult, much harder than my last English speaking contest!”. Tue Lam shared: “It’s difficult, I just thought this contest were to find the best students!”

Indeed, to find the owners of the top most valuable scholarships of the Edison Schools System, the “swirling questions” of the School Board leaders plays crucial roles. And the more difficult questions were made, the more attention and interest to the students’ projects, their knowledge, thinking, personalities and depth were expressed by the judges

Tung Thi, a notable active boy both in and out of the testroom had to accept the difficulties of this contest. However, he found his own way and shared: “I always smile because I want to bring positive energy towards people though I may be very nervous and tremble at the same time. I have watched many clips on tips to win the interview and I realized that the most popular question is to tell about strength. It is not simply to list out all of my strength but to show to the judges that my strength coincide with what the judges are looking for”

This contest is also a valuable opportunity for students to show their courage and sharp critical thinking. In response to a challenging question refering management capability of a huge project, Minh Chau said “I will also set up teams and groups and assign the leader of each team to take charge and move forward the project, the same ways as our school leaders like Mrs Minh and teacher Hao are doing”.

No words can express all the feelings and pride that the Jury had today in the presence of enthusiasm from the Students for the school and community’s activities, and the sharing of young citizens about responsibility and life meaning.

What the jury finally learned: “The more practical activities the students participate in, the more convincing the project will be!”. It is also a testament to the path that Edison Schools has chosen: Creative learning programs and helping students apply them to real life!
